ARTIST 艺术家
Ding Yi
Ding Yi is a leading figure in Chinese contemporary abstract art. Since the late 1980s, he has developed his signature “Appearance of Crosses” series, transforming the ” + ” and ” × ” symbols—originally precision marks from the printing industry—into a profound and globally recognized visual language. His practice spans painting, sculpture, spatial installations, and architectural interventions, exploring aesthetic order through infinite repetition and the shifting social landscapes of urban expansion.
Ding’s work has been exhibited at prestigious institutions worldwide, including the British Museum, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and the Venice Biennale. He was the first Chinese artist to collaborate on global design projects with brands such as Hermès and Ferrari. His works are held in the permanent collections of numerous major museums globally. He currently lives and works in Shanghai.
